Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual UK
Multi-Service Networks workshop,
that usually takes place at The Cosener's House in Abingdon, was held
online instead. My students
Mihail Yanev and Vivian Band
both gave talks at the workshop, and I'm pleased that Vivian was
jointly awarded the Brendan Murphy memorial prize for best PhD
student presentation. Many congratulations!
Mihail spoke about work he's been doing as part of
his internship at Rakuten Mobile
in "Herding the FLOQ: Another Queue Management Proposal". This work is
considering active queue management to reduce early packet loss, which
can cause a significant performance hit for some flows. Vivian spoke
about "Malware and IPv6 Scanning", and the challenges of port scanning
the large IPv6 address space to detect vulnerable IoT devices.
